About Us

The DC Department of Small and Local Business Development (DSLBD) supports the development, economic growth, and retention of District based businesses, and promotes economic development throughout the District’s commercial districts. DSLBD envisions a business environment in which: DC businesses are connected in real-time with local, federal, and global business opportunities; businesses navigate government quickly, confidently, and effectively; and, every entrepreneur and business with a great idea and a great plan has the capital to make it happen.


DSLBD focuses on the following programmatic areas that work to sustain and grow small and local businesses: Certified Business Enterprise Certification; Local Business Development; Federal Business Development; International Business Development; and, Commercial Revitalization.

DC Women’s Business Center

The Washington, DC Women's Business Center (DCWBC) is a business development organization that serves women entrepreneurs in the Washington, DC Capitol Region. The DCWBC is managed by the National Community Reinvestment Coalition (NCRC). The DCWBC provides training and consulting to assist in the growth of women-owned businesses in federal procurement opportunities. For more information about DCWBC, click here.


Small Business Teaming Center

The NCRC's Small Business Teaming Center puts together teams of small businesses with complementary capabilities to allow them to compete for large federal contracts they would not be able to win individually. To learn more about the DC Small Business Center, please click here.

FastTrac® NewVentureTM

The FastTrac NewVenture program is designed for aspiring entrepreneurs who have an idea for a business, but need a plan and framework to successfully start a company. The program will help these entrepreneurs:
      • Develop their business concept.
      • Determine the viability of the business idea.
      • Outline the critical steps to a successful business launch.
      • Formulate a detailed business plan.
